“America is great because America is good, and if America ever ceases to be good, America will cease to be great.” said Alexis de Tocqueville, 19th century French statesman.
Over the 4th of July weekend, I witnessed a random act of kindness outside Memorial East Hospital in Shiloh. A lady named Lucy was getting soaked in the rain waiting for the bus to take her home. It was miserable for her and the rain was getting worse not better.
Suddenly, a bright red dodge pick-up truck stopped in the middle of Cross Street. A man, who said nothing more than “Here ya’ go” handed her his umbrella. He didn’t stop long enough to tell her his name or to be thanked. I guess he didn’t want to impede others getting to their homes or his act of kindness was as much a benefit to him as it was to Lucy.
There is no doubt in my mind America is good, so America is …
