The Metro East Bears rallied for four runs in the fifth inning in a 10-6 win over Danville on Friday at the American Legion State Baseball Tournament in Rantoul.
Trailing 5-3 entering the bottom of the fifth, the Bears (39-8) got a leadoff single from Kade Burns who advanced to third base on a double by Joel Quirin. After Burns scored on a single by Corey Price to cut the Danville lead to 5-4, Storm Coffman hit a ground ball that was booted for an error, allowing both Quirin and Price to score to give the Bears a 6-5 lead.
Tate Wargo added a run scoring single later in the inning to inrease the lead to 7-5. The Bears added two runs in the sixth inning on RBI by Blake Vandiver and Price and added a run in the eighth to take a 10-6 lead.
Kade Burns pitched the first 6 2/3 innings to get the win while Wargo retired the last seven Danville hitters to earn the save.
With the win, the Bears advance into the title game at Wabash Park at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Metro East will play Danville which defeated Barrington 10-5 in an elimination game late Friday.
If neccessary, a second title game will be played at 2 p.m. Saturday.
