Southern Illinois Ice Hawks win tourney title

The Southern Illinois Ice Hawks Pee Wee Team entered into a tournament to play in the Seven Bridges Spring Classic youth hockey tournament in Chicago on May 16.

The boys ages range from 11 to 12 years old. This team consisted of four separate youth hockey programs in the Southern Illinois area. Most of the players had never played with each other before nor had a winning season.

The Ice Hawks won their round robin games and found themselves in the semifinals of their tournament bracket. The Ice Hawks beat a strong Bruins team 5-4 to advance to the championship game. In the championship game, the Ice Hawks battled a determined Leafs team down to the wire, winning the championship in a 3-2 squeaker.
