Kimmswick, Mo., race to raise funds, awareness for ALS

The fourth annual Kimmswick (Mo.) 5K race and 1-mile walk and fun run will be held Sept. 6 at The Blue Owl Restaurant and Bakery in Kimmswick. Cost is $30 before Sept. 2, $35 after Sept. 2.

The run will go through historic Kimmswick, alongside the Mississippi River, the Anheuser Estate and the Windsor Harbor Bridge, the oldest known wrought-iron bridge in Missouri.

Registration includes a T-shirt, lunch from The Blue Owl Restaurant and Bakery and post-race drinks. The top-three finishers in each age group will win one of The Blue Owl's famous pies. Age divisions are 14-under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70-over).

Again this year, participants can fund-raise and get their race entry fee refunded and earn other perks, including a chance to win an iPad.

The race is held to raise funds and awareness in the battle against ALS, or Lou Gehrig's Disease. All funds raised this year will go to the Nancy Ratliff Medical Fund. Ratliff is paralyzed, with only minimal ability to move her eyes, and requires 24-hour care at her home, far exceeding the coverage provided by her health insurance.
