Calling it “an amazing race,” Belleville native Meghan Trapp (Zahn) made her first appearance in the Boston Marathon a successful one on Monday.
One of more than 30,000 athletes from around the world competing on the famous 26.2-mile course, Trapp finished in 3 hours, 30 minutes, 54 seconds. The time was just six seconds over her personal record time of 3:30:48 seconds set in the Louisiana Marathon in Baton Rouge earlier this year.
A 27-year-old special education teacher at Abraham Lincoln School in Belleville, Trapp qualified for the 2015 Boston Marathon at the St. Louis Marathon last fall when she finished with a time of 3:32.40. Her time of 3:30.54 is under the qualifying time of 3:35 needed to compete in the 2016 Boston Marathon.
