In 1999, ESPN and a panel of sports journalists endeavored to select the top 100 North American Athletes of the 20th Century. The initial countdown of the top 50 mesmerized sports fans right up until the final two spots were announced on Christmas Day. Naturally, there was controversy among both viewers and voters over who was on the list and who was left off. For example, Triple Crown winner Secretariat was just one of three four-legged “athletes” on the list and somehow ranked above our own Stan Musial.
So here’s the question: Who were the top five on the list?
Answer: Sorry, you’ll have to come back tomorrow. Each daily edition of “Criddle’s Riddles” will include a new sports trivia question and the answer to yesterday’s question.
