LU-B softball clinic benefits family
Lindenwood University-Belleville is hosting a special pitcher and catcher softball clinic this Saturday, Feb. 20 with all proceeds going to the family of Melanie Guerra, the Waterloo mother of four killed in a car accident with an uninsured driver, Jan 31.
The clinic will be held on the LU-Belleville football stadium. Check-in is at 12:30 p.m. Instruction by Lynx coaches and players will last until 3 p.m.

'Couch to 5K' training offered
The Belleville Running Club’s annual spring Couch to 5K program will begin Monday, Feb. 29 at the Belleville East High School track. An informational meeting will be held Monday, Feb. 22 at the Nichols Community Center, room 107, 515 E. D St., Belleville.
The Couch to 5K program, also referred to as "the beginner’s 5K training," offers nine weeks of training to progressively get participants ready for their first 5K. The program is a walk/run program that gradually replaces walking with running. Group training sessions will take place at 6 p.m. every Monday from Feb. 29 through April 25.
The BRC program is designed to prepare participants for the annual Law Day Run on April 30 in downtown Belleville.
Participants may sign up for the program at the informationl meeting, or they may register online at http://bellevillerunningclub.com/training-beginner/. The cost is $10 per person, and participants who attend at least 5 session will receive a T-shirt.
Youth flag football offered
Under the Lights flag football league is offered for youth in kindergarten through eighth grades at Belleville West High School beginning this spring. Registration is open now.
The league is sponsored and organized by Under Armour, which provides uniform dry-fit shirts and shorts as part of the registration fee. Early registration fee is $155, but will increase to $180 on March 11. There is a $25 discount for siblings.
The season will be at least seven games long and tentatively will begin on Sunday, April 10 through June 12. Teams can complete in either a six-on-six or seven-on-seven formats.
The league also needs volunteer coaches, who will be subject to a background check and certification process.
