Lindenwood University–Belleville traveled to St. Louis on Saturday for an American Midwest Conference matchup against St. Louis College of Pharmacy, winning 91-83 in overtime.
The Lynx (9-13, 7-8) had a commanding lead over the Eutectics (0-18, 0-15) for the majority of the first half, but a nine-point Lindenwood lead would eventually shrink to just one.
STLCOP tied the score at 66 with 49 seconds left, eventually taking the lead in the last 10 seconds of play as guard Ilias Kalogeropoulos nailed a 3-pointer to go ahead 69-66.
Lindenwood gave the ball to senior guard Martavian Payne, who led the Lynx team with 27 points. A 3 from Payne tied the score at 69 to force overtime.
Never miss a local story.
All of a sudden, Lindenwood came to life.
The Lynx went on a 10-0 run to lead 79-69 and held on for an eight-point win.
Throughout the game, Lindenwood shot 47.8 percent from the floor and 64.7 percent from the free-throw line. Alongside Payne’s 27 points, sophomore center Andrew Voss and junior guards Shakari Hawkins and Sean McGee reached double figures, combining for 40 points.
“You win some games, and you lose some games,” Lindenwood head coach Vince Meninno said. “We are happy to get another conference win and are going to arrive at practice on Monday ready for a couple home games coming up.”
The Lynx will return to Lynx Arena on Thursday to take on Harris-Stowe State (13-8, 10-4) at 7:30 p.m.
