ST. LOUIS -- Former Western Illinois University linebacker Bryan Cox, a graduate of East St. Louis Senior High School, along with several former St. Louis Rams and St. Louis Cardinals were chosen to the Missouri Valley Football Conference's All-Select NFL Team.
The MVFC, founded as the Gateway Football Conference in 1985, is celebrating its 25th anniversary this season.
Cox played in 165 games with 144 starts for the Miami Dolphins, Chicago Bears, New York Jets, New England Patriots and New Orleans during an NFL career that spanned from 1991-2002.
Cox earned three Pro Bowl selections.
Quarterback Kurt Warner heads the lists of former Rams on the squad.
Warner, a standout at Northern Iowa, guided the Rams to two Super Bowl appearances and earned two NFL Most Valuable Player awards.
Offensive lineman Adam Timmerman (South Dakota State), kicker Jeff Wilkins (Youngstown State), wide receiver Mike Furrey (Northern Iowa) and running back Aveion Cason (Illinois State) also played for the Rams since their move to St. Louis in 1995.
Wide receiver Kevin House (Southern Illinois University Carbondale) and Ron Jaworski (Youngstown State) played for the Los Angeles Rams.
Two former St. Louis Cardinals -- quarterback Jim Hart (SIUC) and quarterback Cliff Stoudt (Youngstown State) -- also made the squad.
Hart was a four-time Pro Bowl selection who threw for 34,655 yards during his career (1966-84).
Timmerman, House, Stoudt and Wilkins were selected in the Institutional Great category for players who played at league schools prior to being members of the MVFC.
Fans will be able to vote to determine an Offensive and Defensive MVP of the league's All-Select NFL Team starting Aug. 15 at www.valley-football.org.
Fan voting also will be conducted during the 2009 season to help choose a Silver Anniversary team.
