Bob Goalby, the 1968 Masters golf champion, was honored Friday at Belleville West with the rededication of the football and soccer field in his name. The 1947 graduate of Belleville Township lent his celebrity to the the effort to raise the $1.4 million needed for the installation of artificial turf at the two District 201 stadiums.
The football field at Belleville East was named Friday in honor of Charlie Woodford, 95. Woodford was the founding president of the Lancers booster club and a two-time recipient of the Purple Heart during his service in World War II. (Note: Audio is quiet, so turn your volume up all the way.)
The Mascoutah High School football team plans to stand with members of local law enforcement, firefighters, EMS and veterans during the national anthem at its homecoming football game against Triad High School.
