Edwardsville High School senior A.J. Epenesa won the discus and shot put championships, and Blake Neville, DeVonte’ Tincher and Travis Anderson also added victories Thursday, as the Tigers breezed to the title at the Class 3A Moline Track and Field Sectional.
The defending state champion in the discus, Epenesa had a winning toss of 181 feet, 9 inches and also took the top spot in the discus with a 56-3 effort for the Tigers, who finished with 122 points to defeat 2016 state champion East St. Louis (78 points).
Neville won the pole vault. Anderson, back after missing several meets with an injured hamstring, won the 110-meter hurdles. Tincher took the 200-meter championship. In all, Edwardsville advanced 13 entries into the Class 3A State Track and Field Meet, which is May 26-27 at O’Brien Stadium in Charleston.
East St. Louis won the 800-, 1,600- and 3,200-meter relays and also advanced in the 400-meter relay after finishing second to Collinsville. The Flyers received individual wins from Deante Anderson in the 400-meter and Delano Anderson in the 300-meter hurdles.

Collinsville freshman Jemarrion Stewart won the 100-meter dash in 10.7 seconds. The Kahoks also won the 400-meter relay.
Also winning titles Thursday were Granite City senior Torrey Deal in the high jump and sophomore Andrew O’Keefe in the 1,600-meter. O’Fallon senior won the 800-meter in 1:53.61.
Advancing to the state finals from Belleville West was Ricky Berry in the 110-meter hurdles. Belleville East advanced in the 1,600-meter relay.
