Madison High School junior Dontez Pittman won the 110- and 300-meter hurdles to lead a balanced attack on Thursday as the Trojans won Class 1A Carlinville Boys Track and Field Sectional.
The sectional championship is the school’s first since the 1992 season for the Trojans who finished with 110 points, seven more than second place Carlinville.
Pittman won the 110-meter hurdles events in a time of 15.47 seconds and won the 300-meter hurdles in 40.19 seconds.
Other Madison athletes winning championships on Thursday were Eric Griffin in the 100 meters (11.3 seconds) and 200 meters (22.8), Carl Moore in the triple jump (41 feet 6 3/4 inches) and Javon Watkins in the 3,200 meters (10 minutes 08.73 seconds)

Madison also won the 400- and 800-meter relays and took second in the 1,600-meter relay. All nine of these entries advance to the Class 1A State Track and Field championship, May 27-27 at O’Brien Stadium in Charleston.
Class 2A Springfield Lanphier Sectional
Competing for just the second time all season, Highland senior Tyler Higgins won the 200-meters to pace a strong Bulldogs performance at the Class 2A Springfield Lanphier Sectional on Thursday.
Bothered by injuries for the past year, Higgins finished with a time of 22.16 seconds in the 200 meters to score the narrow win. Highland also got a win from Jacob Plocher in the 3,200 meters (10 minutes 15.22 seconds). Also earning bids to the Class 2A state track meet were Sebastian Wolfin the pole vault and its 400 meter relay team.
