Althoff dominates Gibault in two sets
The Althoff Crusaders (4-0) defeat the Gibault Hawks (3-5) in a Catholic High School Rivals Night to remain undefeated this season. The Crusaders finished both games with scores of 25-9 and 25-11.
Althoff’s libero Annika Beal lead the final points against the Hawks with a 10-point serve in the second set. Setter Louise Comerford, a Division I Miami University (Ohio) recruit, had a stellar night at the net.
Althoff travels to Mascoutah (3-5) on Sept. 7 at 5:15 p.m. while Gibault travels to Granite City on Sept. 11 at 6:30 p.m. for their next games.
West rolls out another win against Freeburg
Belleville West continues their undefeated streak (6-0) as they take down Freeburg (6-3) in three sets. Freeburg took the opener 25-17 but that did not stop the Lancers from taking the match, winning the second and third set 25-21 and 25-22.
West and Freeburg will both play again Sept. 7 at 6 p.m. West travels to Mater Dei (8-2-2) and Freeburg hosts Wesclin (6-1).
Mascoutah sweeps Belleville East 2-0
The Indians down the Lancers 2-0 in a nonconference game with both sets ending with a 25-16 score.
Tieghan Morio led the Indians in points with nine kills and one block. Molly Cravens and Kayla Rudolphi split assists with seven a piece.
Mascoutah (3-5) hosts Althoff (4-0) Sept. 7 at 5:15 p.m. Belleville East (0-4) will look for their first win of the season when they travel to East St. Louis (6-3) Sept. 7 at 4:30 p.m.
O’Fallon outlasts Mater Dei in three sets
The O’Fallon Panthers outlasted the Mater Dei Knights after a back and forth three sets. The Panthers took set one by a score of 25-21 and the Knights answered back by taking set two by a score of 25-21 as well. Both teams went back and forth in set three until O’Fallon came out on top 25-20.
O’Fallon improves to 6-2 on the season and will face Triad (3-5) in a nonconference match Sept. 6 at 5 p.m. Mater Dei (8-3-2) hosts a nonconference match against Belleville West (6-0) on Sept. 7 at 6 p.m.
