Althoff freshman Avery Irwin’s 77 was one shot off the medalist’s score Tuesday at the Centralia Class 2A Boys Golf Regional at Greenview Golf Club.
But it was also good enough to lead the Crusaders to the regional championship. Althoff, host Centralia and Mater Dei all move on to the Salem sectional on Monday, Oct. 9.
Kyle Steve, of Columbia, was the tournament medalist with a score of 76 and is among 10 golfers to advance individually.
For Althoff, Jack Bruening and Dylan Davidson each recorded a 79, and Connor Wilson shot an 82 to pace the Crusaders. Payton Whitehead (86) and George Orlet (87) also completed.

Mater Dei was led by sophomore Grant Goebel’s 77. Tanner Gerdes (84), Jacob Schadegg (87) and Nathan Rivera (88) also contributed to a team 336.
Waterloo, which came in fourth, one shot shy of advancement, still had four individuals advance in Sam Kreinberg (82), Tommy Carr (84), Zane Miller (85), Tre Wahlig (86), and Kole Kaltenbroon (87).
Also advancing from Columbia are Jeremy Obregon (87) and Darren Cookson (88). Jackson Haag (87), of Central, and Jaden Rhoderick (87), of Mascoutah, also advanced to sectionals.

Roxana 2A Regional
The Highland Bulldogs placed third behind Quincy Notre Dame and Alton Marquette to advance to the Salem sectional.
Ben Brauns led the Bulldogs with an 85, followed by Brandon Munie (83), Dylan Bargetzi (83), Connor Pinsker (88), Evan Sutton (87) and Stephen Schniers (87).
Individually, fourth-place Triad will send Cameron Lambert (82), Tyler Flescher (89), Garrett Wood (90) and Matt Weis (93).

Belleville East 3A Regional
At Clinton Hills in Belleville, Quincy Senior High, Edwardsville and O’Fallon advanced to the Homewood-Flossmoor sectional.
Quincy junior Parker Cambell was the medalist with a 72. One off the pace was Edwardsville’s Ben Tyrell, who led the Tigers with a 73.
O’Fallon beat Springfield by six strokes to finish third and advance to sectionals. Logan Lowery led the way with a 79.
East seniors Daniel Frew and James Davis are among the 10 individuals to advance. From Collinsville, Noah Scrum, Noah Carroll and Greg Witte move onto sectionals. Andew Wielgus, of Granite City, also advances. Eddie Constance, of Belleville West, also made the sectional cut.

Okawville 1A Regional
Marissa sophomore Logan Jones shot a 74 to earn medalist honors and advance to the Wesclin Class 1A Sectional, though the Meteors placed fourth and missed the team cut.
Nashville, Gibault and Red Bud earned team advancement.
