Fueled by an excellent second day, Texas A&M junior and former Central standout Jena Hemann placed 14th in the heptathlon at the NCAA Women's Division I Outdoor Track and Field Meet at Heyward Field in Eugene, Ore.
A 2011 graduate of Central, where she won 11 IHSA individual state titles, Hemann was in 19th place after four events on Thursday, but used a fourth-place finish in the javelin to move up the leaderboard Friday.
Hemann had a top throw of 146-feet, 7-inches in the event.
She also tied for fourth place in the long jump with a leap of 18-5, then completed the grueling two-day competition by placing 16th in the 800 meters with a time of 2 minutes 24.96 seconds.
Hemann finished with 5,410 points. Georgia freshman Kendell Williams won the title with 5,854.
Hemann is one of four metro-east athletes competing at the NCAA Championships.
A former Cahokia standout, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville standout Laderrick Ward placed fourth in the men's long jump, while Bradley sophomore Kristen Busch of Freeburg finished 18th in the women's 10,000.
Ward and Busch competed Thursday.
Former Belleville West athlete Claudette Day will compete in the women's high jump today. She is a freshman at Northern Illinois University.
