The defending Class 3A state champion, Brown seems destined to dominate the event again this year after a winning jump of 39 feet 2 1/2 inches at the Southwestern Illinois Relays. Brown also won the long jump and 300 meter hurdles championships.

Brauer made a chilly Friday night seem even colder for city rival Althoff as she tallied three goals — all in the first half — to pace the Lancers 5-0 win. Only a freshman, Brauer already has nine goals this season.
The junior pitcher-outfielder and Southern Illinois University Carbondale recruit is off to a flying start for the Panthers, hitting .474 through six games with three home runs and 11 RBIs. The lefty is also 2-0 on the mound with a 0.00 ERA.
The 6-foot-8 senior left-hander and Missouri recruit has been destroying teams at the plate and on the mound. During Alton’s 6-0 start, Hudson is hitting .615 (8-for-13) with three home runs and 12 RBIs along with a double and triple. He’s been next to untouchable on the mound, tossing a six-inning no-hitter Saturday with 14 strikeouts in a 10-0 win over Civic Memorial. He is 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA, striking out 29 in 12 innings while allowing just three hits. The Redbirds have two other hot hitters in Jacob Kanallakan (.583, 11 RBIs) and Steven Nguyen (.529, 10 RBIs).
Collinsville won its first five games and McEwen was a key reason, getting eight hits in his first 13 at-bats (.615) with two doubles and six RBIs.
The Hawks’ offense has been on fire and McFarland has been one of the hottest as the junior Arkansas recruit is hitting .600 through six games with one double, two triples, a home run and seven RBIs. Gibault is also getting huge contributions from Quincy recruit Chandler Purcell (.556, five doubles, 10 RBIs), Jacob Bircher (.412, 11 RBIs) and sophomore Trevor Davis (.500, two triples, 10 RBIs).
A University of Illinois track and field recruit, Michl opened the outdoors season by staking his claim as the premier athlete in the metro-east in the 300 meter hurdles as he ran a time of 37.13 seconds in winning the event at the Southwestern Illinois Relays.
One of the state’s premier Class 1A sprinters for the past three years, McGill won the Class A 60 meter title at the Illinois Top Times/State Indoor Championship on Saturday at Illinois Wesleyan University in Normal. McGill finished with a time of 6.93 seconds.

Schanuel has been effective with a bat or a ball in his hands, going 2-0 on the mound with a 0.00 ERA and 14 strikeouts in 12 innings. He’s also hitting .545 through five games with two RBIs.
A superb two-sport athlete, Session completed his indoor season by winning the 60 meter hurdles title at the Illinois Top Times/State Indoor Championship on Saturday at Illinois Wesleyan University in Normal. Session had a time of 8.29 seconds.
The top ranked high school combination athlete in the nation, Ward completed his indoor season by winning titles at the Illinois Top Times/State Indoor Championship on Saturday at Illinois Wesleyan University in Normal. Ward won the triple jump with an effort of 49 feet 2 1.2 inches and the long jump championship with a jump of 23 feet 5 3/4 inches.
He wasn’t much of an offensive force last season, but Zielonko came roaring out of the gates this spring to hit .625 (5-for-8) with a home run and five RBIs. Senior right-hander Daniel Lloyd picked up where he leeft off last season, winning his first two starts with a 0.00 ERA.
