Freshman Chloe McIsaac placed third in the singles draw while the Belleville East received top four finishes from a pair of doubles teams as they nipped Belleville West and Althoff for the team title Saturday at Belleville West High School.
Isabel Burwitz and Rylan Lopez placed second in doubles while teammates Kaycie Dresch and Morgan Smith placed fourth for East which finished with 21 points.
All five Lancers players will advance to the IHSA State Tennis Tournament, which begins on Thursday in suburban Chicago.
Althoff and Belleville West fell a point short of the Lancers, but the Crusaders and Maroons had sectional champions on Saturday.
Althoff junior Emma Melichar rallied to defeat Kylie McCarthy of Triad 1-6, 7-5, 3-0 in the singles final. McCarthy defaulted in the final set.
Belleville West will be represented by the doubles team of Kaylie Comley and Ellen Binnion who won the sectional title over Lopez and Burwitz of Belleville East 6-2, 6-1 in the title match.
O’Fallon, which placed fourth in the team competition with 17 points, will be represented at state by Mackenzie Shelton in singles and the doubles team of Kate Dumstorff and Bailey Bohnenstiehl.
The top four placewinners in both singles and doubles advance to the state finals.
The Edwardsville Tigers put the finishing touch on a perfect weekend on Saturday at the Alton Tennis Sectional. And so did senior Callaghan Adams.
The 2014 News-Democrat player of the year, Adams defeated teammate Natalie Karibian 6-0, 6-0 in the singles final to lead the way for Edwardsville, which advanced four entries into the IHSA Girls State Tennis Tournament and finished play on Saturday with a perfect 36 points.
Adams was also perfect as by winning all four of her matches 6-0, 6-0 during the past two days, won a remarkable 48 straight games.
While Adams and Karibian, a freshman, dominated in singles, it was also an all-Edwardsville doubles final.
Junior Morgtan Colbert and sophomore Grace Desse defeated teammates Maria Mexo and Mackenzie Cadagin 6-2, 6-0 in the final
Other state tournament entries in singles are Shelby Jones of Marquette and Sydney Owsley of Roxana. Advancing to state in doubles are Ashton Tewell and Anne Snyders of Jerseyville and Elena Gable and Laura Moore of Marquette.
