Highland and Edwardsville played three innings Saturday in the annual Tiger Baseball Classic before rain washed out the proceedings.
Edwardsville hit the Bulldogs with a seven-run second when it sent 11 batters to the plate against Pete Baumgartner and Sam Greene. But the statistics were wiped out and the game will be played at its entirety at a later date.
The Tigers (26-1) defeated Lockport 4-1 on Friday as Tim Funkhouser became the winningest coach at Edwardsville with his 510th victory. Tom Pile had 509 wins from 1981-98.
Edwardsville and Highland played one inning under ideal conditions. Rain began falling, however, in the second inning and gradually became more intense.
The umpires huddled with Funkhouser and Highland coach Joel Hawkins as the fourth inning was about to begin, and it was determined to stop play.
The batter's box and the pitching mound were covered with a tarp, but the infield became unplayable in the next few minutes.
