Defending Class 3A state champion Chicago Morgan Park will take on Chaminade College Preparatory School from St. Louis in the marquee game of the 27th annual Highland Optimist/Scott Credit Union Shootout on Jan. 6 at Highland High School.
The metro-east will be represented by the Highland and Lebanon girls teams and Edwardsville, Belleville West, Highland and Columbia boys teams.
Event Director Matt Powers announced the seven-game schedule earlier this week.
“There was a period when the shootout would get one or two top-100-ranked kids. Now we’re getting eight to 10 each year,” Powers said. “We’re just very fortunate there is so much basketball talent in the St. Louis area.
“Morgan Park has a number of Division I recruits and a top-25 ranked player in senior guard Ayo Dosunmu, while Chaminade has a pair of highly recruited players in Jericole Hellems and Carrington Davis. That’s our marquee game.”
The shootouts other matchups are: Highland vs. Lebanon (girls); Edwardsville vs. Kansas City (Mo.) Rockhurst; Whitfield (Mo.) vs. Carbondale; Highland vs. Columbia; Belleville West vs. Poplar Bluff (Mo.); and St. Louis Vashon vs. Champaign Central.
Tickets will go on sale in December and are priced at $8 for the first three games or $12 for an all-day pass.
