For those who speculated that Cardinals manager Tony La Russa would leave St. Louis to go back to his Oakland home and commute across the Bay Bridge so he could manage the Giants, don't worry about it.
According to the San Jose Mercury News, current Giants skipper Bruce Bochy has agreed to a two-year contract extension with an optional third year. So there is no vacancy in San Fran to fill.
It really seems like the only option for La Russa, who seems to want to continue to manage, would be to come back to St. Louis. The other open seats, including Washington and Houston, aren't going to offer anything close to the short term opportunity to win La Russa would get by coming back to the Cardinals.
