Word out of Milwaukee is that the Braden Looper signing will be formally announced during a Thursday press conference.
According to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinal, the former Cardinals hurler will get $4.75 million in 2009 to join former teammate Jeff Suppan in the Brewers starting rotation. Looper and the Brew Crew have a mutual option for 2010 for an undisclosed amount.
Never miss a local story.
In other free agent action, Former Reds outfielder and first baseman Adam Dunn signed a two-year contract Wednesday with the Nationals.
The move would seem to support rumors that Manny Ramirez and Orlando Hudson are close to signing contracts to play for the Dodgers. It was well known that Dunn preferred to play for Los Angeles if he had a choice. But, apparently he didn't, with the Dodgers thinking of Dunn plan B if the Ramirez deal didn't work out.
