We haven't had a Dream Weaver update in ages around these parts...
So it's noteworthy to mention that the former Cardinals World Series hero has inked a minor league contract to stay with the Dodgers that could pay him $800,000 -- if he makes the team. He could make another $100,000 in performance incentives.
Weaver was 6-4 with a 3.65 ERA in 28 games with the Dodgers in 2009.
The talk of the Dream Weaver reminds me that he served a brief stint in Milwaukee's minor league system in 2008. If imitation is the most sincere form of flattery, the Cardinals ought to be blushing at the way Milwaukee has tried to recreate the 2006 Birds' pitching staff:
The Brewers have signed Weaver, Jeff Suppan and Braden Looper and they have talked with Mark Mulder about a comeback attempt.
And while we're talking about 2006, the Reds have signed 2006 Cardinals infielder Miguel Cairo in their never-ending quest to corner the market on over the hill infielders.
