Unlike the night before when they squandered just enough opportunities to lose, the Cardinals came through just enough when it counted Tuesday night to beat the Reds 5-2 and reclaim a share of first place in the division.
Yeah, that's awesome and all, but does it even compare to the Cubs blowing a five-run lead in the eighth inning against Atlanta? Call me bitter. But that made my freaking day. I can almost hear the Chicago sports radio callers now as they demand that everyone from Milton Bradley (who improved the Cubs lineup last night by getting hurt -- again) to the batboy be flogged in the public square.
Anyway, unlike Monday when the Cardinals were unable to hang on to an early lead, they fought back with a run in the fifth and three more in the sixth to regain the lead as storm clouds threatened.
Cardinals Star of the Game: Joe Thurston was 2-for-3 Tuesday and is 5-for-6 over the Reds series to bust out of his slump.
Lowlight: Ryan Ludwick was 0-for-3 to drop to .248 and has struggled to regain his stroke after a stint on the disabled list with a pulled hamstring.
