While the Cardinals wait for some hot stove clarity from the Matt Holliday camp, the Brewers have added a second pitcher to their roster.
Fresh off of reaching an agreement for Randy Wolf, they have inked reliever La Troy Hawkins to a two-year contract, according to Fox Sports.
The Brewers were reported earlier this week to be close to a three-year agreement for lefty starter Randy Wolf that would pay him $27-$31 million depending on the report you believe. Wolf's agent has been shopping the contract around the majors. But, since he has been unable to convince a team over each of the last three off-seasons to give him more than a one-year deal and the contract is worth about twice his annual $5 million paycheck each of the last two seasons, it seems unlikely he will get a better deal.
The Brewers, who let Braden Looper walk after signing the former Cardinals starter and reliever last off-season, are clearly overpaying to try to add some stability to their rotation.
A formal announcement on Wolf could come sometime today.
