Cardinals infielder Felipe Lopez was in the lineup this morning but, curiously, just before game time he was pulled.
I'm not sure what that's all about. Is Lopez in manager Tony La Russa's dog house? Was he pulled because he might be included in some sort of trade? The Cardinals weren't saying before the Saturday contest against the Cubs.
It would be extremely odd to see Lopez traded unless the Cardinals were getting a superior middle infielder in return. If they were to, for example, make a mega deal for Arizona's ace Dan Haren and shortstop Stephen Drew, I could see them parting with Lopez and moving Tyler Greene to third until David Freese comes back from the disabled list. But why would Arizona want Lopez? They traded him away just more than a year ago. And any team in the big leagues could have signed Lopez as a free agent over the winter.
If Lopez is in trouble because he was late to the park or something, he picked the wrong place to do it. There are quite a few Cardinals left who remember when Darryl Kile didn't make it to the park on time a few years back with tragic results.
