The Indians haven't got much out of Anthony Reyes since they traded a bag of balls to the Cardinals for him. But they aren't prepared to give him up just yet.
Reyes, recovering from Tommy John Surgery and expected to be out until mid-season, has a clause in his contract that calls for him to be able to ask for his release if he is not on the major league roster at the beginning of the 2010 schedule. So, in order to hang onto him, Cleveland put Reyes on the 40-man and then assigned him to the 60-day disabled list.
It's a shame that Reyes has been around this long without realizing his potential. But I guess he will always have his outstanding performance in the 2006 World Series to remember. And, hopefully, he can get things turned around with the Tribe to make something of his career yet.
