The Cardinals welcomed back P.J. Walters from Class AAA Memphis Friday and shipped Brian Barton back to the minors.
With the designated hitter in an American League park, the Birds apparently thought they needed a bench player less than they needed a 13th pitcher.
Walters was terrible during an earlier trip to St. Louis. But since getting a refresher in the minors, he has pitched much better. It still seems that the Cardinals don't have a lot of depth in their pitching staff.
Cobly Rasmus hasn't started for a couple of games drawing the wrath of some fans who wonder why manager Tony LaRussa would sit one of his hottest hitters. Turns out Rasmus has a bruised heel. The Cardinals are hoping he could return to a starting role as soon as today.
