Former Cardinals starter Todd Wellemeyer has signed a minor league contract with the Giants that includes an invitation to spring training.
It's a huge step back for Wellemeyer, who made $4.1 million to pitch for St. Louis last year. But he had a bad year in 2009 and the market has been really tough for players from the top to the bottom of the food change.
If Wellemeyer can make the San Francisco roster, pitching in their huge home ballpark could be just what the doctor ordered to revive his career.
The Rockies and Mets were also said to be interested in Wellemeyer, although Colorado disputed those reports earlier this week.
Wellemeyer's salary was not disclosed.
