Apparently unable to work out a deal with former General Manager Walt Jocketty, the Cardinals have returned lefhanded pitcher Ben Jukich to the Reds.
Jukich, a big, sturdy pitcher just like Dave Duncan likes them, never seemed to have much of a chance to make the St. Louis big league roster with Kyle McClellan, Jaime Rodriguez and Rich Hill ahead of him in the derby to be the fifth starter and Dennys Reyes, Trever Miller, Hill and Garcia ahead of him to be lefties out of the bullpen.
The Cardinals apparently hoped all along that they could make a deal to keep the Rule 5 draftee in the minors, because they barely let him pitch in Grapefruit League games.
Unfortunately for Jukich, the Reds skedadled from Sarasota, FL to Arizona for spring training. So, instead of making a short drive across Flordia, he's got to travel nearly all the way across the country to inferior, oceeanless spring camp.
