The Brewers did the Cardinals a favor Thursday afternoon, beating the Cubs 7-4 at Wrigley field and shrinking St. Louis' magic number to 8. Milwaukee also took away one of the Cubs' three games in hand and, in short, took one more very important bullet out of Chicago's gun. Cardinals  85-62 Cubs        75-70
