The Cardinals report that ace Chris Carpenter is progressing well in his recovery from an oblique tear that has kept his sidelined since April 15.
Never miss a local story.
The team told mlb.com that Carpenter no longer feels pain in the muscle and that he has resumed working out to get into pitching shape. He hopes to get clearance to resume throwing as soon as Monday and the 2005 Cy Young Award winner could be back as soon as late May. Original expectations called for Carpenter to miss a full two months.
Mitchell Boggs has done a nice job filling in for Carpenter. Maybe Boggs will be able to be moved out to the bullpen to bolster that weary staff once Carpenter returns to the club.
