St. Louis closer Ryan Franklin has been named Major League Baseball's outstanding reliever for the month of August.
Franklin made 12 appearances in August and did not allow a run while going a perfect 11-for-11 in save opportunities. He allowed six hits and six walks over a span of 11 inning pitched, striking out four opposing hitters.

Franklin, who recently signed a two-year contract extension, is 2-2 overall with 17 walks and 36 strikeouts in 54 innings. He leads the National League with 37 saves, converting all but three of his opportunties. He is second amongst major league closers with a 1.67 ERA.
The Cardinals are currently resting Franklin during their series with Milwaukee after allegations that he is overly fatigued.
