According to a report in the San Francisco Chronicle, former Cardinals pitcher Jeff Suppan might not be ready to call it a career just yet.
Suppan is said to be close to a minor league contract with the Giants that includes an invitation to spring training.
If he wants to keep pitching, I'm glad that he got an opportunity. Suppan was a good soldier for the Cardinals in 2011, pitching with diminished stuff when the team was desperately in need of help. He rarely breaks the 87 mile an hour mark with his fastball and five innings seems to be a stretch. But he might be valuable as a long reliever.
Hopefully, Suppan will be able to summon up some additional break on his curve and continue his career near his northern California home.
