Just days after Cardinals prospect third baseman Zack Cox was promoted to Class AA Springfield from Advanced A ball in Palm Beach, Fla., the franchise's best pitching prospect may soon be on the move.
I'm hearing rumblings that Shelby Miller, 20, is expected to soon get a promotion to Class AA as well.
Miller, is 2-3 with a 2.89 ERA this season in Palm Beach. But the numbers that catch your eye are a little deeper on the stat sheet: 81 strikeouts in and 40 hits allowed in 53 innings pitched. That's 13.8 strikeouts per nine innings pitched.
In his last three starts, covering 18 innings, Miller has given up a total of 13 hits and five earned runs. He's struck out 32 to add three consecutive 10 strikeout games to his resume. He's struck out 10 or more five times in his nine starts so far this season.
