The Cardinals have placed Kyle McClellan on the disabled list and are expected to do the same with Matt Holliday tomorrow.
McClellan has a hip flexor strain that he apparently suffered in the first inning of his disturbingly ineffective Monday outing. Holliday has aggravated the quad injury that has limited his ability to run and cut short two comeback attempts.
During the broadcast Wednesday it was said that both players are expected to only need the 15-day minimum to recover.
McClellan, who will be replaced on the roster by Lance Lynn, will likely miss three starts. Holliday, whose replacement has not yet been named, has tweaked the injury by trying to play through it. But the Redbirds seem to think it would be best to shut him down completely and let him recover 100 percent before he attempts to play again.
Lynn was 0-2 with a 4.91 ERA for the Cardinals in spring training. He pitched 11 innings and allowed nine hits while walking four and whiffing nine.
