The Cardinals may not just be looking for a closer, according to a Fox Sports report.
While they recently asked the Padres about their stopper, Heath Bell, J.P. Morosi writes that the Birds also inquired about set up man Chad Qualls.
How huge of an improvement would it be for the Redbirds to add not one but TWO competent relievers in the near future? Bell has a 2.70 ERA with 19 saves so far this season. Qualls has a 2.43 ERA in 36 appearances this season.
I'm not sure what the asking price is. It seems like Shelby Miller's name is on the lips of every opposing general manager the Cardinals talk to. But I would be extremely reluctant to deal such a high power prospect in exchange for a couple of guys who can be free agents at the end of the season.
Never miss a local story.
I wouldn't be opposed to saying goodbye to disinterested outfielder Colby Rasmus if the team could get a significant return. But in my opinion a band aid solution is not significant to the franchise.
