The Marlins are reportedly getting hot and heavy with Padres free agent closer Heath Bell.
It will be interesting to see how this impacts their pursuit of St. Louis free agent slugger Albert Pujols. Will this mean that the Fish will have less money to spend on a bid for Albert? Or does it mean that they can make a better case for wooing Pujols since they'll have added another piece to the puzzle of trying to assemble a contender.
I believe the Marlins will be better served to spread around the money they have to spend instead of blowing it all on a guy or two. They could fill more holes by adding solid players in two or three or four spots instead of blowing it all on a superstar. And, if I was in charge, my top priority would be pitching.
