Looking at the Cards from a fan's perspective

Fox Sports Midwest has announced that former Cardinals centerfielder Jim Edmonds has been hired as the station's primary analyst.

He'll replace Cal Eldred, another former St. Louis player, who has been hired by the club as an assistant to general manager John Mozeliak.

According to Fox Sports Midwest, Edmonds will work about half of the games the channel broadcasts. Al Hrabosky, Rick Horton and Chris Duncan will also work part of the time as before and after game analysts with Horton and Hrabosky also splitting time as color men with play by play broadcaster Dan McLaughlin.

I haven't seen Edmonds do analyst work before. So I can't speak to his television skills. But I think it's important to keep significant players in the Cardinals family. Even if he's a television guy and not a coach, he's going to be around the team's young players. And there is a lot an eight-time Gold Glove winner can do to teach Oscar Taveras to be a better outfielder and left-handed hitter. So it doesn't sound possible for this to be a bad move.
