Looking at the Cards from a fan's perspective

The Houston Astros have announced that former St. Louis Cardinals P/OF Rick Ankiel has made their club as its starting right fielder.

Ankiel has played for Kansas City, Atlanta and Washington since his St. Louis days.

Now 33, Ankiel is a .244 hitter with 69 career homers. It seemed his days as a major league player were numbered. But Ankiel found a new home in Houston where GM Jeff Luhnow, a former Cardinals front office staff member, is willing to throw a few bucks at a familiar face to stock a rebuilding club that's lot of people believe will easily lose 100 games.

I'm glad as a fan to see Ankiel get another chance. But his window is closing because of his age.
