The Cardinals made a switch this week from giving kids a chance to play to getting the big leaguers tuned up for the season. And what a difference it has made on the field.
The Redbirds were 2-7 and were losing by giving up huge crooked numbers. Suddenly they've won four in a row and the guys who St. Louis will count on to win big league games are getting the innings.
On Saturday the starting hurler was Joe Kelly. He hurled 5 1/3 innings against the Atlanta Braves while allowing one run on four hits. He struck out three and walked none.
Kelly was also the offensive catalyst. In a blow to arguments in favor of the designated hitter, the St. Louis pitcher had three hits and drove in two runs to pace the Cardinals to a 6-2 win.
Never miss a local story.
Daniel Descalso Drove in two runs and Jhonny Peralta knocked in another in the road game at Disney's Wide World of Sports. Trevor Rosenthal pitched one inning and allowed no runs on one hit. He struck out one and walked none.
