According to a report from a Boston radio station, the Red Sox are looking for some help in Centerfield.
Hmmmmm. If only we knew of a certain local baseball team that had so many outfielders it didn't know what to do with them all...
If the St. Louis Cardinals could get a middling prospect for Peter Bourjos or Jon Jay, wouldn't it be a good time to create some room on the major league roster for a certain Class AAA Slugger who's ready for promotion?
Incumbent BoSox centerfielder Jackie Bradley is struggling to hit .200. Boston is thought to be looking for a more productive offensive player. While Jay is the better hitter of the St. Louis outfield tandem he, like Bradley, is a lefty swinger. So maybe they'd like Bourjos better.
The Cardinals could afford to deal one of their centerfielders because not only does top prospect Oscar Taveras have some abilities there. But Randal Grichuk is nearing the majors and he can play center. And there's always Shane Robinson and the remaining outfielder between Jay and Bourjos. St. Louis should still be amply covered in centerfield.
