St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Lance Lynn won't reach his career high in wins -- 18 -- this year.
But, regardless of how his last two scheduled starts go, this will certainly go in the books as his best season.
Lynn is currently 15-9. But his earned run average of 2.68 is well more than a full point under his career mark of 3.82 before the start of the 2014 campaign. He averaged 15 home runs allowed in his first two seasons as a full-time starter. This year he's cut that number back significantly to nine.
The Pittsburgh pirates have announced that starting pitcher Charlie Morton will be unable to make his scheduled start Sunday against the Milwaukee Brewers.
Suffering from a sports hernia, 6-12 with a 3.72 ERA, Morton may be out for the season, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Instead, the Pirates will turn to Vance Worley to start Sunday. He's 7-4 with a 3.18 ERA in 15 starts.
