The Pittsburgh Pirates are closing in on a deal to re-sign starting pitcher Francisco Liriano, according to Ken Rosenthal.
Liriano had a 3.38 ERA in 2014 and allowed only 130 hits in 162 1/3 innings of work. But he managed only a 7-10 record. Liriano struck out 175 batters and walked 81 on his way to an average of 1.3 baserunners allowed per inning.
He's 4-1 with a 1.98 ERA against the St. Louis Cardinals for his career with 32 hits allowed in 50 innings.
The Minnesota Twins, with whom Liriano started his career, have also expressed interest in bringing the lefty back.
