Rams release Dominique Byrd

News-Democrat

The St. Louis Rams released tight end Dominique Byrd, a third-round draft pick in the 2006 NFL Draft, on Monday.

Byrd's tenture with the Rams was marked by a lack of production on the field and problems off the field.

Byrd, 24, was charged with assault for alleging hitting a bar patron in the face with a drinking glass in December 2006. He was arrested for DUI in March 2007 in California.

The 6-foot-2, 254-pound Byrd caught four passes for 44 yards last season. He was inactive for seven of the Rams' 16 games in 2007.

Byrd played in 14 games with six catches for 83 yards and one touchdown in his career.

The Rams declined to comment on Byrd's release.
