Rain halts play at midsummer classic

Games will resume at 9 a.m. today

VALMEYER -- Heavy rain caused the postponement of play Saturday at the 37th annual Valmeyer Midsummer Classic.

The tournament is scheduled to resume at 9 a.m. today at Borsch Park when Waterloo will take on Fairview Heights in the first semifinal.

Belleville will take on host Valmeyer at 11 a.m. in the second semifinal. The third-place game is set for 1 p.m., with the title game scheduled for 3 p.m.

The consolation bracket has been canceled. All games today, with the exception of the title contest, will be seven-inning contests.

The championship game will be nine innings.
