Highland High School students will strut their stuff on stage for a pageant to showcase talents, interview skills and outfits. But it is not ladies in the spotlight. This time it’s the boys’ turn.
The first annual “Mr. Irresistible Contest” will place 10 seniors in an all-male pageant. Each will represent a sports team or club at Highland High School.
“Mr. Irresistible is a great way for the drama department to practice producing a show,” said Amy Kloss, drama club sponsor. “Plus, it gives 10 senior guys the chance to showcase their talents and charm.”
The contest is at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Highland Elementary Auditorium. Doors open at 6 p.m. and tickets can be purchased at the door for $5.
“This is a big fundraiser for the HHS Drama Club. Drama students have the chance to produce a show and practice behind the scenes skills such as lighting, sound and stage direction,” Kloss said. “We hope this will be a fun school-wide event that can also be enjoyed by the entire community.”
The buzz for the event is circulating throughout the school for a new event that is hoped to be annual. The same anticipation is shared by the males participating.
“The guy’s seemed very excited to showcase talents such as dancing, singing and much more,” Kloss said. “They are bound to knock your socks off. We guarantee a fun, entertaining night for all.”
The contestants are responsible for creating their own talents and choosing their own formal and sports wear.
“Let’s see if they can dress themselves well enough to make mama proud,” Kloss said.
The judges for the event are five high school girls from Mater Dei, Triad and Wood River. The winning contestant will earn his team or club $100.
Contestants are Ricky Diaz (ambassadors), Tenor Kapp (National Honor Society), Kevin Keeven (football), Ryan Keller (Spanish club), Alex Korte (track and field), Garrett Meier (soccer), Simon Menz (band), Alec Perfetti (golf), Andy Reutiman (basketball) and Alex Truccano (madrigals).
