'Persona 6,' new 'Spyro' announced at Xbox Games Showcase

June 8 (UPI) -- The Xbox Games Showcase returned Sunday, with highlights including Persona 6 and Spyro: A Realm Beyond.

The event featured announcements, trailers and news about upcoming video games coming to Xbox consoles.

Persona 6, the first new main entry in the Atlus franchise in nearly 10 years, was announced to come to Xbox Series X/S, Xbox PC, PlayStation 5 and Steam. A release date has not been set.

A moody teaser trailer for the game follows the camera through a graveyard to a headless statue, hinting at a darker and more mature return for the series.

In addition, Persona 4 Revival, a remake of Persona 4 Golden (2012), will release on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5 and PC on Feb. 18, 2027.

The Spyro franchise is also plotting a return with Spyro: A Realm Beyond, a new game from Toys for Bob and Microsoft's Activision coming to Xbox Series X/S and Xbox Game Pass.

Players will embark on "a brand-new adventure through a strange and wondrous realm" as the dragon Spyro when the game releases in spring 2027.

Meanwhile, the Gears of War franchise will make a comeback with Gears of War: E-Day, an origin story following Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago as they first face the Locust Horde.

The game, the series' first main title since Gears 5 (2019), will release Oct. 6 as an Xbox console exclusive.

Other established franchises will get new entries with Metro 2039 (set for release in February 2027), Fable (Feb. 23, 2027), Senua (2027), Minecraft Dungeons II (Sept. 29), Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 (Oct. 23), Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember (early 2027) and Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy (Aug. 27).

Original titles included the steampunk ARPG Clockwork Revolution (Xbox exclusive releasing in 2027), the Soulslike ARPG Valor Mortis (Sept. 24), the cult-themed survival game Join Us (March 2027) and the narrative-driven FPS Magicians: The Devil's Deal (2027).

The Xbox Games Showcase follows the PlayStation State of Play presentation and the Summer Game Fest showcase last week.
