Stellar Blade: Blood Rain Continues Shift Up's Sci-Fi Action Series With a New Hero

One of the biggest surprises of Summer Game Fest 2026 came from Shift Up, the studio behind Stellar Blade. Rather than announcing a straightforward sequel titled Stellar Blade 2, the developer revealed Stellar Blade: Blood Rain, a new entry in the franchise that continues the story of the original game while introducing a different protagonist and a dramatically different setting.

The announcement immediately generated discussion among fans because Blood Rain looks noticeably different from the first Stellar Blade. While the original game focused heavily on post-apocalyptic environments and humanity's struggle against the Naytiba, the new trailer presents a futuristic urban landscape filled with towering skyscrapers, neon lights, and rain-soaked streets. The change in atmosphere gives the game a much stronger cyberpunk aesthetic than its predecessor.

Blood Rain takes place in the same universe as the original Stellar Blade. However, players will not be controlling Eve this time. Instead, the story follows a new protagonist named Evie. Shift Up has not revealed many details about her role in the narrative, but official descriptions confirm that the events of Blood Rain continue the broader storyline established in the first game.

A New Direction for the Series

Although Blood Rain introduces a new protagonist and setting, Shift Up has emphasized that the game remains connected to the established Stellar Blade universe. Observers have already identified references to organizations and factions from the first game, suggesting that returning players will find familiar elements hidden throughout the new story.

Another significant development involves the publishing side of the project. Unlike the first Stellar Blade, which was published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, Blood Rain is being published directly by Shift Up. This change has led to speculation about the game's platform availability, though the developer has not yet shared complete details regarding where the game will launch.
