Rock and Roll Icon Reacts To Video of Crowd Singing His 1971 Hit Over 50 Years Later
John Fogertyis best known for writing and performing all of Creedence Clearwater Revival's biggest hits, and many of the enduring songs remain as fan-favorites, even over 50 years later.
Fogerty was recently reminded of the undeniable staying power his music has after seeing a now-viral video of a large crowd singing all the words to his 1971 hit, "Have You Ever Seen the Rain?" The footage was taken at a bar after Fogerty's concert in Chandler, Ariz., on June 5, when, evidently, the crowd wasn't ready to stop singing CCR tunes even after the show ended.
The video was shared to Fogerty's Instagram page on Monday, June 8, and it was noted in the caption that the legendary musician was "so touched" after seeing the clip.
"When asked about his legacy, John has always said that it's the song that matters most," the statement in Fogerty's Instagram caption read. "Moments like this show exactly why - songs bringing people together."
"Have You Ever Seen the Rain?" originally came out in 1971, but it experienced a massive resurgence in 2021, when it reached No. 1 on Billboard's Rock Digital Song Sales chart, where it spent two consecutive weeks.
It is Fogerty's only song to ever reach a No. 1 position, though he still has not had any songs reach the summit of the Billboard Hot 100. In fact, many of his other CCR hits only ever peaked at No. 2 on the Hot 100, including "Proud Mary," "Bad Moon Rising," "Lookin' Out My Back Door/Long As I Can See the Light," "Green River" and "Travelin' Band/Who'll Stop the Rain."
Still, Fogerty's music has certainly stood the test of time - and continues to resonate with a whole new generation of listeners.
The 1969 hit "Fortunate Son," which is one of CCR's most enduring anthems, experienced a massive comeback on Spotify in 2024, and the next year, it was named as the most-streamed song from the 1960s in 2025.
