BACK-TO-SCHOOL GIVEAWAY: The Rev. Dorris Davis Helping Hands Shelter will hold its annual Christmas in July Back to School Giveaway at noon Saturday at the Avant Elementary School, 1915 N. 55th St., Washington Park. Free toys and back to school supplies will be given to families in need.

Donations of school supplies, toys, hot dogs, hot dog buns, cookies and sodas/juices, or a cash gift are being sought. Checks should be made payable to Dorris Davis Helping Hands Shelter.

WHITESIDE REGISTRATION: New student registration for Whiteside School District 115, grades K-8, will be held from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Whiteside Middle School, 111 Warrior Way, Belleville.

Bring the child's birth certificate, social security number and three proofs of residency in the district at the time of registration. Students transferring from an Illinois school must provide an Illinois State Student Transfer form.

Children must be five on or before Sept. 1 to register for the school year. For information, call the school at 239-0000.

ANGEL ACADEMY: St. Mary-St. Augustine Catholic School is offering a summer learning camp for preschool children.

"Angel Academy" introduces three and four year olds to the preschool curriculum through activities such as circle-time, learning games, songs and finger-plays and art projects.

RELAY FOR LIFE AUCTION: The American Cancer Society Monroe County Relay for Life team is collecting previouslly worn formal gowns and accessories to be auctioned at a spring 2010 fundraiser.

Donated items will be sold in an auction-like manner following a fashion show.

Proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society in the name of the Monroe County Relay for Life Team, Live.Laugh.Love.

HOCKEY TEAM RIDE: The Granite City High School Warriors hockey team will host a Ride for Ice poker run beginning at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

The last bike goes out at 12:30 p.m. The cost is $15 for two hands and $5 for each additional hand.

The ride starts and ends at TJ's Bar & Grill, 1539 Madison Ave., Granite City.

WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAM: Westview Baptist Church on Sullivan Drive in Belleville, is beginning a new session of First Place 4 Health, a Christ-centered weight loss program.

MILLSTADT REGISTRATION: New student registration for Millstadt Consolidated School District 160 for the 2009-10 school year will be held from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday and from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday-Thursday at the Millstadt Primary Center.

Bring three proofs of residency, driver's license or other photo ID of parent or guardian, a certified copy of the child's birth certificate, social security number for the child, a copy of the child's current physical and immunization and the Illinois Student Transfer form, if transferring from another Illinois school.

DIVORCE DAY CAMP: Family Life Consultants will host a divorce day camp for children. Kids will have the opportunity to develop communication skills that will help them to cope with their new living situation. They will lear about the variety of emotions that come with a divorced or divorcing home life.

The day camp will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Family Life Consultants, 2014 Vandalia St., Collinsville. The cost is $150 per person and includes snack, lunch and materials. For information, call 345-9536.

EASTERN STAR EVENT: Three local Eastern Star chapters, O'Fallon, Rob Morris and Queen City, will combine their efforts at the Taste of Order of the Eastern Star in Macon.

This is a state-wide event showcasing the Eastern Star Home in Macon for retired ladies and will be held from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. July 19.

All chapters in attendance will bring food items for tasting and recipe dessimination. There is a $5 charge for tasting and to help decide winners.

BLOOD DRIVES: The American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter will offer the following:

* CPR and AED Training for the Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Providers, 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Metro East Service Center, 10218 Lincoln Trail Drive, Belleville. This course is the equivalent of the BLS Healthcare provider of the American Heart Association. The fee is $65.

*CPR/AED Training-Child and CPR-Infant plus First Aid, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Saturday, Metro East Service Center, 10218 Lincoln Trail Drive, Fairview Heights. Trains lay responders to recognize and respond to emergency stiuations and care. The cost is $57.

SOLDIER CARE PACKAGES: The Troy/Maryville Area Chamber of Commerce is seeking items for soldier care packages.

Requested items from soldiers are baseballs and gloves for their platoon, video games, books, movies and pictures.

Items can be dropped off at the Chamber office, 647 E. US Highway 40. Items should be donated by Monday. For information, call 667-8769.

SEWING CLASSES: The Belleville Sewing Center is accepting registration for the Dakota Design & Finish classes being offered Thursday and Friday.

Applique Gift Bag class will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and Lace Beauty class is from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday.

The fee is $50 per class and includes specials and coupons.

The applique gift bag class requires an embroidery machine with a 5x7 embroidery field. A student supply list will be provided upon registration. The lace beauty class is for an embroidery field of 4x4 or larger. A student supply list will be provided upon registration.

MENSA TESTS: The St. Louis Area Mensa, the high IQ society, will test applicants for membership from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Washington University Center for the Humanities, 7425 Forsyth Blvd., St. Louis.

Applicants should bring $35 in cash or a check payable to American Mensa LTD.

BLOOD PRESSURE TESTS: Free blood pressure checks are offered from 8 to 9 a.m. Tuesday in the Heritage Room at St. Joseph's Hospital in Breese. The screening is free and there are no dietary restrictions.
